MANAGING YOUR WALLPAPER
DESKTOP SIZES:
Most desktops are 14" (800x600 resolution size). If you have a bigger or smaller
monitor, you must resize the wallpaper. Here's how:
IMAGE EDITORS:
Your best friends if you care about your desktop. These softwares will put the wallpaper
on for you, resize and enhance it if necessary. Our experience is that smaller
softwares (such as Irfanview or Microsoft Photo
Editor in the older Office versions) can do really well, but if you want a
superb image file manager, choose ACDSee.
NEW TIP: Be sure to check out Webshots to download a superb
wallpaper manager for FREE! (Thanks for the tip Betina!)
We've put on these few links to guide you to the line, but it's up to you to choose, there
are many other softwares (freeware or shareware) that do an excellent job, some are
specifically made for wallpaper handling. Take a look at this page to download another free wallpaper
manager.
DIGITAL IMAGING FOR
ENTHUSIASTS: If you feel like you want to create your own wallpapers or any
visual piece of work, then Adobe or Corel
softwares are the ones you might need. (Sophia2K
votes for Adobe, votes for Corel.) :))
ADVANCED SETTINGS: Our
extra tip for full visual harmony around the wallpaper is setting background color
after your wallpaper is on. You can do this by right-clicking at the desktop and selecting
Properties/Appearance. There you can set your own color choices by selecting a simple
color (eg. black) or entering the custom color chart and typing the R/G/B (Red/Green/Blue
value) codes that we gave next to each thumbnail in the galleries.
It's not that painful, and adds a lot to the fun.
IMAGE QUALITY:
If you enlarge an image, it might get fuzzy. Unfortunately, this is the case with these
wallpapers too. But you can always remove some of the damage by smoothing and/or
sharpening the resized image.
OPTIMIZING YOUR SCREEN:
Check carefully that brightness and contrast are well balanced at your monitor. Otherwise,
you might find that wallpapers are too light/dark or over-contrasted.
